Design and Ergonomics

With dimensions of 137 x 104 x 84mm and a weight of 599g, the Sony A550 features advanced Quick AF Live View on the 3 inch variable-angle LCD monitor, which can be tilted up or down, making it easy to frame your subject even when taking high-position and low-position shots.

Picture Quality

With 14.2 mega pixels, you can 10x13 inch prints and enlargement is possible to achieve banner size prints.

The BIONZ processor inside your α camera ensures fast shooting responses and low noise images, frame after frame and the SteadyShot INSIDE, an in-body optical Image Stablisation system, automatically counters unwanted camera shakes.

Performance features

The A550 is capable of shooting JPEG images continuously at 7 frames per second in speed-priority mode, 5 frames per second in optical viewfinder mode and up to 4fps in LiveView mode.

A competent 9 point autofocus system uses 4 modes: single shot AF, which focuses for a static point and then stops; continuous AF, which continuous to adjust focus while your shutter is semi-depressed; and Automatic AF, which automatically switches from single AF to continuous AF when it detects that a subject is moving and manual focus.

Shutter speeds (1/4000 to 30 sec) and Aperture are adjusted in 1/3 stops with 40 segment through the lens auto-exposure. Multi segment, centre-weighted and spot metering modes are also available. ISO settings are available from 200-12800 ISO and white balance is available in 7 modes as well as a custom mode.

Technology Features

The SteadyShot INSIDE reduces camera shake when you’re shooting handheld and is great for atmospheric, low-light scenes without flash as well as high-zoom shots when you haven’t got a tripod handy and works with all  αlpha lenses.

Powered by the the BIONZ processor, the D-Range Optimiser ensures more natural, evenly-exposed pictures, particularly when shooting high-contrast and strong backlit scenes.
