Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6 AF-S ED VR DX Zoom Lens

This lens is purpose built for Nikon DX format SLR cameras providing  a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 82.5- 300mm,which is a perspective from normal to standard telephoto for general telephoto photography and portraits. VR (vibration reduction) is an optical image stabilisation system that uses microgyro sensors to analyse camera shake and shift elements in the lens in response, ensuring sharp images at slow shutter speeds, ultimately providing a gain of up to 3 stops over non-VR lenses. An excellent feature for capturing detail in low-light conditions. One ED element helps to minimise chromatic aberration, astigmatism, and other forms of distortion, while ensuring high resolution and contrast. Nikon's exclusive SWM (Silent Wave Motor) delivers fast, precise, and super-quiet operation.

APS-C (DX)  Only

This lens is designed only for use with APS-C size cameras, ie all DX SLR cameras as opposed to full frame FX SLR cameras. On DX it has an equivalent 35mm focal length of 82.5-300mm

‘VR’ is for Vibration Reduction

Nikon’s second generation of vibration reduction (VRII) produces optical image stabilisation results that offer sharp pictures even when shooting by up to 4 stops slower in shutter speed than conventionally possible. This is excellent for low light shooting situations. Tiny gyro-sensors detect changes in orientation caused by camera shake and respond by moving floating lens elements within the lens in compensation.

‘SWM’ is for Silent Wave Motor

Instead of a motor, ultrasonic vibrations power the lens, making focusing precise, virtually noiseless and incredibly quick – some lenses focusing literally faster than the human eye. The SWM starts instantaneously and stops the moment focus is achieved, with no overshooting. What's more, the USM requires minimal battery power so you can shoot for longer on a single charge.
