Nikon 70-300mm AFS-VR f4.5-5.6G IF-ED Zoom Lens

With compatibility on both DX (APS-C format) and FX (full-frame) DSLRs, this lens is either a normal to telephoto lens when used on Nikon FX DSLRs or a telephoto zoom when used on  DX cameras. On DX it has a 35mm focal length equivalent of 105-450mm. It is also equipped with Nikon’s second generation Vibration Reduction optical image stabilisation, Silent Wave Motor for quick and accurate autofocussing, and ED glass elements for less colour distortion and sharper pictures. A good standard second lens on DX cameras to complement 18-55mm or 16-85mm focal length lenses, and great for indoor or low light handheld conditions.

‘VR’ is for Vibration Reduction

Nikon’s second generation of vibration reduction (VRII) produces optical image stabilisation results that offer sharp pictures even when shooting by up to 4 stops slower in shutter speed than conventionally possible. This is excellent for low light shooting situations. Tiny gyro-sensors detect changes in orientation caused by camera shake and respond by moving floating lens elements within the lens in compensation.

ED is for (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and Aspherical lens elements

This special glass ensures high resolution and contrast while minimizing spherical aberration, astigmatism and other forms of distortion for sharper, less colour fringed pictures. This lens has 2 ED elements.

‘SWM’ is for Silent Wave Motor

Instead of a motor, ultrasonic vibrations power the lens, making focusing precise, virtually noiseless and incredibly quick – some lenses focusing literally faster than the human eye. The SWM starts instantaneously and stops the moment focus is achieved, with no overshooting. What's more, the USM requires minimal battery power so you can shoot for longer on a single charge.

IF is for Internal Focusing

Internal focussing allows the lens to focus without the front element turning. Particularly useful when a circular polariser is filter is attached since the filter can be rotated without affecting focus and vice versa
