Court-based Sports

Sports played on a court allows the photographer to get close to the action and a wide angle lens with a fast aperture is necessary to capture natural light in interiors.  Telephoto focal lengths up to 300mm are necessary for other shots. Ultrasonic motor is a must for fast action focusing. Stabilization helps achieve good motion blur effects when not tripod mounted.

UD (Ultra Low Dispersion) lens elements incorporate low-dispersion optical glass which minimizes distortion and chromatic aberration.

Floating System

Extending the focusing lens group at close focusing distances can sometimes cause distortions such as curvature of field – particularly noticeable with wide-angle lenses. Canon counteracts this problem by incorporating 'floating' lens elements into many EF lenses. Because the floating component is separate to the focusing lens group, aberrations caused by lens extensions are significantly reduced. This means you can be sure of high image quality at all focusing distances.
