Design and ergonomics

The LEGRIA HF21 is compact and light – with dimensions of  70 x 62 x 124mm and weighing only 340g, it’s perfect for taking anywhere.
The HF21 has a 112k pixel widescreen multiangle LCD screen that is 2.7 inches wide and navigational joystick and playback function keys are situated on the frame of the LCD for easy access.

Lens and audio visual quality

The LEGRIA HF21 has a 15 x optical, 300 x digital zoom and the DIGIC DV 3 processor, producing videos of 2.99 mega pixels pixels  and still images of 3.31 pixels.
This cam consists of a 1/4” interlaced sensor, improving the overall quality of the images and clear sound is captured by the Dolby Digital 2ch audio system.

SD/SDHC  recording System and Features

The HF21 records only in high definition to SD or SDHC cards (the same cards used widely in digital stills cameras) which means users store their video footage onto small, interchangeable and reusable media. Recording direct to SDHC memory cards means there are no moving parts in the recording section, which means that the camcorder is exceptionally resistant to impact and tough conditions and the use of SD recording media is in part responsible for the ultra compact build achievable with SD camcorders. Current capacities are available up to 16 GB for recording times of 160 minutes at the highest quality setting, approximately 4 hours recording time in normal mode and 6 hours in economy mode. The resolution in all of these modes remains a constant 1920 x1080 pixels but the bit rate varies between settings.

Technology Features

Shooting HD is easy. Instant AF achieves pin-sharp focus quickly, while extreme camera shake at the wide end of the zoom is effectively compensated for by the Dynamic Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS). Powered by DIGIC DV III, Face Detection Technology optimises shooting settings for perfect people shots – up to 35 faces in a frame.

The Canon HD Camera System combines a 3.3MP Full HD CMOS sensor, a 15x optical zoom Canon HD Video Lens and the DIGIC DV III processor to deliver superb Full HD movies. On the highest quality setting, movies are captured at 24Mbps.

Night Scene mode optimises settings for night shooting, reducing noise and ensuring that bright lights aren’t over-exposed. Low Light mode increases sensitivity and brings out more detail in dim conditions.

Video Snapshot mode makes it incredibly easy to create movies for sharing. Each time the Record button is pressed, a 4 second clip is captured. Simply add your clips to a playlist, select a soundtrack, and you’re instantly ready to watch your movie on a TV – no need for editing. Five rights-free tracks are pre-loaded onto the camcorder: you can also add your own music using the Music Transfer Utility.

Connectivity

The HF21 has a VCR mode for viewing videos in-camera, as well as an AV cable that is connectable to a Television. Footage can be viewed on or transferred to PC using the  2.0 high speed USB cable.
