Design and ergonomics

The LEGRIA HF S10 is compact and light – with dimensions of  70 x 69 x 136mm and weighing only 450g, it’s perfect for taking anywhere.
The HF S10 has a 112k pixel widescreen Multiangle Vivid LCD screen that is 2.7 inches wide and a rotary dial and playback function keys are situated on the frame of the LCD for easy access.

Lens and audio visual quality

The LEGRIA HF S10 has a 10 x optical, 200 x digital zoom and the DIGIC DV 3 processor, producing videos of 6.01 mega pixels and still images of 8.02 pixels.
This cam consists of a ½.6” interlaced sensor, improving the overall quality of the images and clear sound is captured by the Dolby Digital 2ch  audio system. A microphone input connection and headphone jack let you capture and monitor superior audio. Manual audio level control provides even more options.

SD/SDHC  recording System and Features

The HF S10 records only in high definition to SD or SDHC cards (the same cards used widely in digital stills cameras) which means users store their video footage onto small, interchangeable and reusable media. Recording direct to SDHC memory cards means there are no moving parts in the recording section, which means that the camcorder is exceptionally resistant to impact and tough conditions and the use of SD recording media is in part responsible for the ultra compact build achievable with SD camcorders. Current capacities are available up to 16 GB for recording times of 160 minutes at the highest quality setting, approximately 4 hours recording time in normal mode and 6 hours in economy mode. The resolution in all of these modes remains a constant 1920 x1080 pixels but the bit rate varies between settings.

Technology Features

Canon’s unique Instant AF system achieves highly accurate focus at speed. Super Range OIS combats every kind of camera shake, from slow to fast movements..

A Custom Key lets you activate one of five variables which can be assigned to the manual Control Dial, including focus, exposure, and audio level. Further advanced controls include AGC (Auto Gain Control) limits – usually only found on professional camcorders, this boosts or limits responsiveness when shooting in low light – Zebra patterns, Colour Peaking and Colour Bar/Test Tone output.

Video Snapshot captures short 4 second movie clips – ideal for putting together in a playlist later. You can play back your montage of video clips with a soundtrack of your choice. Face Detection Technology automatically optimises settings for perfect people shots, detecting up to 35 faces in a frame. Pre REC captures the 3 seconds of action before you press Record – so you never miss the shot.

DIGIC DV III supports x.v.Color – for deeper, richer hues when movies are played back on compatible HD TVs. 25p Cinema Mode matches the look of traditional film, and provides enhanced low-light shooting performance.

A dedicated Photo mode allows users to capture high resolution still images, up to 8MP. In Dual Shot mode, 6MP stills can be shot during video recording. Photo Burst grabs 25 stills from a single second of recorded footage

Connectivity

The HF S10 has a VCR mode for viewing videos in-camera, as well as an AV cable that is connectable to a Television. Footage can be viewed on or transferred to PC using the 2.0 high speed USB cable.
