Design and Ergonomics

The Sony HDR-HC9 handycam weighs 650g with batteries and records directly on to Mini-DV. The HDR-HC9 features an  2.7” inch LCD touch screen rotates 270 degrees, making it simple to use and displays a resolution of roughly 211k pixels. Zoom and Record buttons are features on the frame of the LCD screen, Three buttons on the exterior of the camcorder can be set to the functions most commonly utilized and an Easy Handycam Button lets you focus only the buttons essential for recording.

Lens and audio visual quality

Sony has incorporated the Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® T Lens in the HDR-HC9 with a 10x Optical and 20x digital zoom
The cam consists of a ½.9" CCD, records Maximum Video Resolution of up to 3.2 mega pixels  and still image resolution of 6.1 mega pixels.
The microphone features a Stereo 2ch audio system and has a microphone input.

Mini-DV Recording System
 
Mini-DV cassette is still the highest quality system amongst current consumer recording options providing a 25Mbps combination of audio and video stream. Mini-DV tapes are typically provide 60 minutes normal play recording and 90 minutes long play and are easy to archive and Stills are captured to Memory Stick Duo.

Technology features

The Sony HDR-HC9 x.v.Color technology allows the  captures 1.8x more viewable colors than the traditional RGB color standard.
SteadyShot® Image Stabilization (optical) system that controls shake and vibration frequencies, and the Manual Focus, which allows the user to control the focus in situations that prevent the camcorder's auto focus to perform optimally, work in conjunction to achieve an even higher level of smoothness in your recording.Super NightShot® Plus Infrared System lets you shoot video with improved color and contrast, even in total darkness, and the Stamina® Battery Power Management System helps the camcorder prolong battery life for extra long continuous recording times from a single charge.

Connectivity

The HDR-HC9 has VCR mode for viewing videos in-camera, as well as an AV cable that is connectable to a Television. Footage can be viewed on or transferred to PC using a version 1.1 USB cable.
