Design and Ergonomics

Weighing 810g without its battery, Canon EOS 5D Mark II is constructed from magnesium alloy and is resistant to external factors like rain and dust. Its Integrated Cleaning System combats sensor dust using hi-frequency vibrations to shake dust from the infrared filter  and incorporates Anti-static technologies, including a special fluorine coating, so as not to attract dust.

The newly designed menu system includes a new Quick Control screen, for instant access to the most commonly changed settings, and Creative Auto mode which allows photographers to control creative factors such background blur, drive mode and image brightness whilst the camer automatically adjusts its key settings.
Live view is enable in the 3-inch LCD, which displays in 920K pixel resolution, has 3 automatic brightness levels as well as an anti-reflection coating and a viewing angle of 170° whilst the viewfinder provides 98% coverage of the scene with a 0.71x magnification factor for precise viewing.

Picture Quality

The EOS 5D Mark II’s 21.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor features ISO sensitivity from 100-6400 which has been redesigned to capture more light and yield a better signal to noise ratio to ensure lower noise images throughout the ISO range. The full frame sensor means that wide-angle lenses stay wide, without the change in angle of view associated with smaller sensor cameras.
The new DIGIC 4 processor, combined with 14-bit analogue to digital conversion, provides smooth gradations in mono-tonal areas such as skies, and highly accurate colour rendition, as well as HD improved noise reduction algorithms.

Performance features

The full HD 1920x1080 video capture feature allows photographers to fire off either single of continuous stills, with video capture continuing after the final frame is captured and can capturing in rapid shooting mode of up to 3.9 frames per second.
There are three focusing methods offered by the EOS 5D MarkII: quick mode, which lowers the mirror temporarily using the 15-point phase detection autofocus mechanism; live mode, which provides contrast based one-point autofocus; and face detection-based focusing.

Face Detection detects and focuses on faces within the frame, automatically setting exposure for best results.

Key Features

Canon’s CMOS technology incorporates noise reduction circuitry at each pixel site, avoiding unneccessary charge transfer operations thus significantly speeding up the process of getting the signal to the image processor, reducing Noise generation  and limiting power consumption.

 The DIGIC 4 image processor uses advanced image processing algorithms to ensure precise, natural colours, accurate white balance, and advanced noise reduction and its ultra-fast processing speed result in highly responsive camera operation and near-instant start-up times.

DIGIC chips work with a high speed DDR-SDRAM image buffer – reading, processing, compressing and writing image data fast enough to keep the buffer clear during long continuous shooting bursts.
The redesigned body cap prevents dust generation through wear on the cap itself in conjunction with Anti-static technologies and A Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit, the EOS 5D Mark II has extra protection against harsh environmental elements.

The Picture Style pre-sets simplify in-camera control over image qualities by offering a different colour response within each selectable pre-set whilst photographers have control over sharpness, contrast, colour tone and saturation.
