Design and ergonomics

A tactile ridge for better grip around the most essential buttons has been worked into the soft yet structured lines of the camera’s aluminium metal body, which is only 18.8mm thick and weighs 133g. A mode dial with grooves for improved feel, a separate grooved selector dial for different photo style effects, and a 2.5 inch LCD viewing screen makes both capturing and viewing of pictures easier. The intuitive Smart Touch menu navigation system uses buttons in an L shape around the LCD display which correspond to display functions, similar to soft keys found on mobile phones.

Picture quality and lens

The camera’s 8.1 megapixel resolution allows for pictures to be blown up to larger than A2 size, which means there is ample room for picture cropping. The Schneider 3x optical zoom lens has the 35mm focal length equivalence of 37- 111mm. White balance can be adjusted and the auto-exposure is also programmable. A super high ISO sensitivity of up to 3200 produces superior pictures in low light conditions.

Key features

Taking portrait pictures with the camera is made far easier through the use of face detection technology, which automatically adjusts focus and exposure when a face is in view. Self portraits are also a breeze, as the camera gives a sound notice to let the user know when their face is in focus. Dual image stabilisation makes use of both lens-shift optical image stabilisation and digital image stabilisation together in order to minimise blurring of pictures. Five levels of adjustment are available for sharpness, contrast and saturation, and built-in red-eye reduction help to further improve picture quality. Various preset shooting modes (Portrait, Children, Night scene, Backlight, Scape, Sunset, Dawn, Firework, Snow, Close up, Self, Cafe, Food and Text) help to quickly achieve great pictures in all conditions. An automatic macro capability of up to 5cm proximity allows for easy close-up photography. Pictures taken can be enjoyed afterwards in a slide show with background music and various special effects. For convenience while travelling, a unique USB multi-charging system lets the user charge the camera battery easily from either a conventional charging point or through their computer.
