s90-powershotThis little 10 megapixel compact camera packs a big punch for its size. Boasting a 3.8 optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 28-105mm), DIGIC 4, ISO of 80-3200, an F2.0-4.9 stabilized lens, a dual anti noise system and among other things they have squeezed a 3 inch LCD II in as well!

The Anti Noise system works by taking maximum advantage of whatever light is available in your surrounding and reducing the noise / scratchiness of your image. I found this feature worked really well in particularly low light and I was even able to keep my ISO at 3200 and not have noise as a result.

The little Powershot s90 weighs in at 175 grams making it a perfect pocket or handbag size camera, as they say, dynamite comes in small packages!

Canon’s Intelligent Contrast Correction technology reduces high-light mess ups and helps keep the low-light details.

The Powershot has been equipped with Image Stabilizer (IS) technology reduces camera shake and the resulting image blur, this feature gives the Powershot S90 a great advantage over competing cameras. The Powershot’s f/2.0 wide-angle lens gives way to twice as much light as an f/2.8 lens, allowing photographers to use faster shutter speeds to reduce image blur.

The 3 inch LCD has 460,000 dots as well as PureColour II technology. This impressive display is great for reviewing and framing your images.

The Powershot includes some Scene Detection features. You are able to pick from a number of scene modes, which is best for the surroundings you are shooting in. This feature is great when you are trying to play with effects or are shooting in a difficult light situation. There is even a special mode called Low Light Mode (speaking for itself) sets the camera for ideal shooting in low light.powershot_s90_back_sml

Something which I thought was fantastic: the menu has a Hints and Tips feature on most of the settings and modes. This helps you through the learning process and might even give you an idea for a shooting mode that you were unaware of.

The Canon Powershot gives its users a Control Ring which, among various features, gives it users a manual zoom option. Offering a view in 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 105mm.

Worth a mention & just for fun: The Canon Powershot S90 has a feature called Nostalgic Mode which adds an aged effect to your photograph. You can even control the intensity of this effect ranging from a subtle fade to an intense grainy black and white image.

The Powershot allows the user to fine adjust the camera’s white balance. If you do not want to manually adjust anything and are spending a day happy snapping some fun pictures, then set the camera to Smart Auto which Scene Detection Technology and the camera will do the rest for you.

The Powershot can plug directly into your television for viewing your photographs.

My Conclusion: This is an excellent little camera for both enthusiasts and beginners alike. I really enjoyed playing with this camera and I was pleasantly pleased by the amount of features and modes Canon has jammed packed into this tiny, lightweight body!
