SAcamera Hosts Lighting Workshop in Cape Town
On Saturday 19 September 2009 SAcamera hosted a lighting masterclass for the lovely folks of the Cape Town Photographic Society. We did this in conjunction with the agents for Elinchrom in South Africa.
The masterclass was presented on Portraiture and the Semi-Nude. It was a masteclass for serious amateurs aimed at introducing them to studio lighting and related disciplines. We also used this opportunity to invite along the newsletter subscribers from Cape Town who requested us to keep them informed of future workshops closer
to home. Neil Kirby, now officially an Elinchrom SA sponsored photographer once again was at the helm and ran the class superbly.
Having someone with Neil’s years of experience in advertising was invaluable as he quoted practical examples of techniques that he has refined over his career as well some that he himself learned from mentors. More than a show and copy type of class, Neil also enlightened attendees on the psychological and postural dimensions to working with models to get images that produce the subtle levels of emotion and composition that clients demand. Attendees also got the opportunity in the closing minutes to work with the model and take pictures on their own SLRS. With the workshop having run over-time, there wasn’t an opportunity to finish with the Semi-Nude discipline but everyone left with a lot of insight and inspiration with which to forge into studio photography.
Should you be interested in attending an event such as this in the future, or would be keen for us to run a masterclass for your society, please feel free to contact us.
