canon-ef-100mm-fThis is a brilliant lens both for a user starting out in Macro photography and a seasoned photographer.

It is a Sturdy hold at 600g with a 58mm filter. USM (Ultrasonic Motor) enables the Canon EF Macro lens to focus incredibly fast, accurately and deliciously quietly. A few users that I have chatted with have moaned that their Canon EF 100mm lens didn’t perform to their satisfaction in terms of speed, however, with a firmware upgrade to their Canon DSLR camera, the lens showed its true colours and worked brilliantly.

Important to note that there is a discontinued non-USM version of this macro lens, if you run into a sluggish version then it’s good to keep that information in mind in case you are using this older version. (When you purchase the lens make sure you are purchasing the newer version)

(FTM) Full Time Manual is active on this lens and the front element does not rotate. There is a focus limiter switch which enables full or restricted distance focus depending on what you need for the photograph.

The Canon EF 100mm is sharp enough to show the most delicate detail on the tiny subject with clarity and smoothness.

The colour and contrast when using this lens are brilliant. There are eight aperture blades to help you create an excellent and controlled background blur.

The Numbers: Diagonal angle of view: 24 degrees. Closest focusing distance: 30 centimetres. Maximum aperture: 1:2.8.

When I was taking pictures of human portraits using the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens (it’s a mouthful isn’t it!) the clarity was so amazing that I could count the number of eye lashes on my models face.

Even when using this lens for normal shooting the outcome was impressive and I was happy with the images.

This lens is known to be a well built, quality product. It lasts for years with the proper care.

I definitely recommend it as a professional and beginner purchase.
