canon-7d1The latest Super Model of the camera world. Canon has just released its EOS 7D. The light weight, curvaceous magnesium alloy body with buttons and switches in all the right places just can’t help but grab your attention and I haven’t even mentioned the 3 inch LCD yet.

The LCD has very creatively been revamped! Most cameras have a small gap of air between the Liquid Crystal and the glass covering it – this gap is what catches the light and makes a glare on the screen. The Canon 7D has overcome this obstacle by injecting a special, elastic optical fluid into the gap – locking out the air and smoothing the glare away.
This stunning feature is called Clear View II. A really clever idea and I am somewhat surprised that it wasn’t thought up sooner. (Well done Canon!)

It has 920,000 dots and an ambient light sensor alongside the screen on the cameras body. The Ambient light sensor sets brightness of the screen for you by detecting the brightness of the light in your shooting environment.

The Canon 7D is constructed around its new 18 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and has a glorious 100% coverage viewfinder with 1.0X magnification.

The Numbers: An incredible 8 frames per second in continuous shooting mode. An ISO range of 100 – 6,400 which is expandable to 12,800(!) Weighing in at 820 grams without the battery. Charged by a Lithium-Ion LC-E6 rechargeable battery which allows for around 800 shots per charge.

The time it takes from the moment you switch the 7D on to being ready for its first shot: 0.4 seconds!

And now for some exciting news!
The Canon EOS 7D has gifted its user with 1080p HD video recording with manual controls and selectable frame rates! Shooting in MOV mode (Video: H.264, Sound: Linear PCM)

Your videos exposure can be adjusted in Manual Mode which gives you fill control of the shutter speed and apertures. While you are given the option to select frame rates from 30 (29.97), 25, and 24 (23.976), with 60 (59.94) and 50 available at 720p, personally I left it on 720p which shoots up to 60 frames per second and gave me crisp, clear videos.canon-7d-top

ISO can be set manually as well or automatically within the cameras ranges.
Canon has intergrated a feature that allows you to trim and cut your movies.

There is a dedicated switch allowing you to swop from shooting still photography t video in one easy step.
A nifty little trick: There is a button that you can push which will automatically save your next image in both RAW and JPEG file types.

Canon 7D has been given a 19 point Auto Focus system with each point being a cross. Two great features which have been included are Soft AF and Zone AF.

Soft AF uses a tinier area of your sensor to determine the focus. This is great for smaller subjects that might otherwise be lost in big backgrounds with your standard auto focus confused between the tiny subject and what’s happening behind it.
Zone AF restricts focus selection to one of five zones, ensuring that your subject is automatically selected.

The Canon EOS 7D has a wireless flash option which is not limited to the built in flash but also operates groups of external flashes as well.

I was really impressed to find that the camera’s options were largely customisable. This allowed me to assign my preferred and favourite controls into the conveniently supplied settings on the camera, saving so much time when it came to learning the controls and growing comfortable with the camera’s functionality.

The Canon EOS 7D uses DUAL DIGIC 4 processors and therefore never has to compromise on image quality, function speed and ISO performance. The 7D also includes a completely separate processor dedicated to handling auto focus calculations.

There are a number of fantastic accessories which are compatible with the Canon 7D. The WTF-E5 (wireless file transmitter) allows extensive camera control via your web browser; this feature gives you the ability to control your camera using a mobile web-enabled device!

The magnesium alloy body is environmental proof and the normal dust removal techniques have been included in the form of a sensor vibrate at start up and dust mapping.

My Conclusion: 5 stars! This camera is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed using it and absolutely loved the ability to program my own shortcuts. Great photo quality and crisp video recording, this camera is a must have!
