Last Saturday night the SAcamera team had an outing to Cape to Cuba restaurant in Long Street. We decided it would be appropriate to don Cuban attire, including styled moustaches - even for the ladies in the team. Cape to Cuba is a very vibey establishment. We began the festivities downstairs at the Cuban-themed cocktail bar. Strawberry Mojitos are highly recommended.

Dinner was a jovial affair. Their mezze platters come adorned with all sorts of tasty bits and bobs, including a chilli bite-thingy which was hot enough to make Jody sweat enough to dislodge the adhesive that kept his moustache in place. The mezze platter was washed down with a round of ‘jager-bombs’ (jagermeister and red bull) - a drink that it is doubtful to replace the Mojito as a Cuban favourite anytime soon.

The maincourse was a hands-on operation. We opted for a couple of meat platters. The assortments of tender meats was interspersed with vegetables and rice. After the jager-bombs the team seemed to lose a semblance on inhibition and we feasted like Kings and Queens (albeit with moustaches).

After dinner we ascended the stairs to the Cigar Bar. It was here that Niall really came into his own, puffing away on a Cohiba and looking quite at home in his Cuban hat and neatly trimmed moustache. The Bar is a lively yet intimate spot. It provides a selection of fine Cuban cigars and the decor is reminiscient of an Ernest Hemmingway-styled study in Havana. We must commend the guys at Cape to Cuba on fine food, drink, cigars and hospitality.
